On Tuesday February 9, First UCC Northfield Senior Minister Todd Lippert joined Lutheran pastors Steve Sylvester, Peter Weston Miller, and Isaiah organizer Matt Gladue for a 45 minute meeting with Xcel CEO Chris Clark and 3 of his staff. It was a very productive conversation.
The Isaiah delegation presented Clark with two concrete proposals related to a specific, substantial increase in community solar garden project approval and two on bill financing, a tool that would allow low-income families and families with poor credit to finance energy efficiency improvements, weatherization, and community solar participation in a way that saves them money.
The delegation did not expect Clark to agree to these proposals immediately. Instead, the group wanted to ask for the formation of a working group that would work in good faith to try to implement these proposals.
Clark agreed to the idea of a working group, and he also agreed that Xcel will be at Isaiah’s Faith Summit on the Environment and the Economy on February 21. As this workgroup begins, Rev. Lippert will be participating.
First UCC in Northfield is proud to be a member of Isaiah MN. Because of the work of Isaiah organizers and Isaiah churches and leaders, the United Church of Christ will have a voice at the table with Minnesota’s largest utility as we work towards a renewable future. Xcel and Isaiah both see great opportunities, and possibilities for working together. This is a great place to start.
