2018 Winter High School Youth Event

Friday, March 9 - Sunday, March 11

This year’s theme: Becoming Yourself: 6 Qualities for Spiritual and Personal Formation

Beloved, valued, strong, gifted, beautiful, enough. These are a few words that describe who we really are as God’s beloved creation. But do these words really describe how we truly see ourselves or who we understand ourselves to be? How can we come closer to seeing ourselves the way God loves us? Pastor Sheri Nelson from First Congregational UCC in New York Mills, will lead participants through a weekend of self-exploration and community connection. Minnesota singer, song-writer, and worship-leader Hans Peterson will also help lead this event. Through scripture readings, music making, videos, and art, participants will engage a variety of opportunities to connect with God at the intersection of the inward and outward journeys of faith, life, and leadership.

Hans Peterson was born and raised in Alaska. He began his life in the Midwest at Luther College. Since his college days, Hans has toured with a musical group to West Africa, worked as a youth director/worship leader, and served homeless men in a Catholic Worker House. Hans’ passion for the church as a welcoming place led him to United Seminary in the Twin Cities where he completed a masters in theology and arts. As a singer/songwriter he ventures out solo and with the Dakota Road band, playing piano and acoustic guitar. Home is now in Jordan, MN where he teaches music and private lessons at St. John’s School. Hans lives with his spouse, Heidi, on her family’s farm with their two boys. When he is not leading people in song, he might be weeding the garden, picking berries, tapping sugar maples, or harvesting hazelnuts. In all that he does, Hans prays and works for a world where all creation is seen as sacred.
