On a sunny, spring day in the middle of April, UCC chaplains gathered for lunch at the MN Conference office. Fifteen chaplains, along with Shari Prestemon and Rick Wagner, met to consider if regular gatherings would be of value for Minnesota Conference UCC chaplains.
“Those who serve in chaplaincy settings across Minnesota provide an essential and powerful ministry to persons who are often in very vulnerable times of life,” says Conference Minister Shari Prestemon. “Their presence and service among us is an enormous blessing.”
Chaplains in ministry settings often encounter unique ministry opportunities and challenges. The opportunity to gather and share resources, support, and to network was a welcome blessing. Going forward, times together will include these components as well as an educational topic for each meeting.
The group has made it clear that they would like to continue to meet on a regular basis, perhaps 3-4 times a year, and are in the process of reconnecting with UCC Chaplains in order to determine the best days and times for future meetings. An email survey will be sent in the next couple of days to help gather this input.
It is expected that the chaplains’ next meeting will be held in September with the possibility of an informal gathering during Annual Meeting in June.
If you have not been contacted about becoming involved in these gatherings, please contact Mark at the MN Conference office. The MN Conference is thrilled about the positive energy experienced in this gathering and looks forward to future opportunities to gather for support and encouragement for our varied and vital ministries!
