Youth & Faith Formation Events

Spring Middle School Youth Event
May 12-14, 2017 at Pilgrim Point Camp

Being and DoingProgressive Christian Practices and the Ongoing Work for Justice

So much emphasis is placed on our “doing” in the world – our educational pursuits, extracurricular activities, community service projects, and on and on. Far too little time, energy and space is given to discovering and discerning our “being” – our deep gifts, inner longings, and true identity. Conference middle school youth (grades 6-8) and their leaders are invited to a fun weekend retreat of “being” and “doing” at Pilgrim Point Camp in Alexandria, MN. Youth will be invited to explore and experience progressive Christian practices that open spaces for discovering their identity and discerning how they are called to use their true gifts and passions in the ongoing work for justice in the world.

An excellent opportunity for confirmation groups and middle school youth from your church to deepen their faith and connect with others. A great cap to the program year!

Lizann Bassham CYEHelping to guide us through our weekend together will be Rev. Lizann Bassham, a UCC chaplain at Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA (a historically Christian seminary now training social activists and faith leaders from various spiritual traditions). She was one of the authors of the “Our Whole Lives” curriculum. She writes for SageWoman Magazine and is a teacher in the Reclaiming Tradition (an earth-based spiritual tradition). Once, quite by accident, she won a salsa dance contest in East L.A.!

Join faith formation leaders of children and youth from the Minnesota Conference UCC
on the 4th Thursday of the month to eat together, share resources and learn fresh ways
to engage our ministries.

About:
As many congregations near the end of their formal program year, how can faith formation leaders invite and equip families to engage in life-giving and soul-renewing practices during the alternative rhythm the summer months afford.  Lori Alford, Pilgrim Point Program Director, will lead an exploration of embodied spiritual practices that families can engage in their day-to-day living.  There will be space for participants to engage in small group table conversations and learn from the collective wisdom of the community.  Please come prepared to share stories about the practices that nurture your soul and practices you have shared within your ministry context.
When: Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 11:30am-1:30pm
Where: Minnesota Church Center, Assembly Rooms, 122 W Franklin Ave, Minneapolis, MN (directions)
Who: Clergy, staff and volunteer leaders of children, youth and faith formation ministry
